Who Else Remembers Amalinze-the cat...

It has been 8 year, yet we remember.  How can we forget Amalinze-the cat. The great wrestler who for seven years was unbeaten, from Umuofia to Mbaino. The cat whose back never touches the earth. How can we forget Okonkwo, with his bushy eyebrow, wide nose and severe, always angry look.. How can we forget the spring in his legs as he walk, with his heels barely touching the ground.. How can we not remember his renowned feat of throwing the cat in a fight. We remember the stretchy tautness of their muscle as they wrestle. The fiercest fight since the founder engaged a spirit of the wild for seven days and seven nights. The old men agreed.
Chinua Achebe

It has been 8 years since the world lost a literary icon in Chinua Achebe, and yet he lives on in his unforgettable characters. His ability to craft unforgettable characters and paint vivid pictures with words will forever be the standard for literary excellence. IS SOCIAL MEDIA COMEDY/SKIT THE DEATH OF ACTUAL STAND-UP? ...as we tend toward the ridiculous.

Basketmouth  (Bright Okpocha) 2013 ''there are two things involved'' comedy schtick was both revolutionary and entertaining for its time. It was funny without being out rightly vulgar and informative at the same time. That particular act could have been performed at the Def Comedy Jam and it would have gotten the same reaction from the audience. Well thought out and hilariously thought provoking. But then maybe I was late to catch up with the scene.  Acts like Alibaba (GDFR) commonly credited as the grandfather of modern Nigerian standup comedy, pioneer/revolutionary in his own right.  In comes social media and a influx of would be comedians, talented and non-talented alike.  All it takes now is a smart phone, a few apps like Snapchat and Tiktok for effect and you are good to go.  Throw in maybe a ridiculous dress (say a man dressed as a woman, but not as a drag art) and a wig and you sure are going viral. The whole COVID-19 situation, the ...

The talking drum sounds the very familiar beat, as the frantic dancers echo the tune in tandem to corresponding steps. Short and precise, the kongo struck. Each strike, a different tone. The stretch the contrast, each stroke, a different moan.  " àseese tún se. àseese tún se. T'áabá sè yí tán, ká tún sè'mîì si.  àseese tún se. àseese tún se".  '' We shall celebrate again. We shall celebrate again. As soon as we  finish this celebration, we will have another.''.  Serving as both interlude and chorus.

Coming 2 America- the sequel ~ A Costuming Finesse

A Costuming Finesse. Coming2America premiered on Amazon Prime on March 5th and it was a total statement made, mic drop in the costuming and wardrobe department. If you thought topping the costuming finesse that was Marvel's ''Black Panther'' movie, for which the ''Best costume design  Academy award'' was won, then you are very mistaken. Coming2America was a jaw dropping visual experience from start to finish.         Costume Designer Ruth E. Carter on Creating Coming 2 America's Royal Look  in her interview for Town & Country Magazine describes the experience ''as the perfect example of the mixture of high fashion, historical references and big screen razzle-dazzle''  .  ''a chance to build on the visual story of the original and update it with modern sensibility''                            - Ruth E. Carter for Town & Country Magazine.   And it sure lived up t...
